So I had my students make drawing using lines and shapes to make a design.  There drawing was done on a 8" square paper.  After that we took wire and they had to make a square then copying there drawing using the wire.

4 students combined there projects to make a one wire sclputure.  They did a new job

Student plan.

One of my 5th graders say to me a while back "I would like to plan are next art project".  So I said go for it. I told here she would have to come one with a great plan, all the steps for the lesson, and what we need to make it.

So she did that with a little help from some of her other classmates.  They want to take a famous painting and make it larger.

So we figured out the math, made grids, cut the big paper.  Then got to work.

We chose "The Figure 5 in Gold". By Charles Demuth

It was neat to see them work. People that had pieces next to each other work together to make sure there lines would match up. Others did not and that was ok.

I think they did really good.

Honor

My friends over at Coreessentials.org have character words, animals, and colors for each month.  One of their words was honor.  So with Veterans Day just around the corner I thought we would honor them and what they have done for our country.

So my 4th graders work on a op art/one point perspective drawing. First we made the letters USA and work on making them 3d using one point perspective.  My students thought it was so cool that we could make letter 3d just using a point and some lines.  Then we had the stripes of the flag which we try to look like it blowing in the wind.  We do this by value of the white and red. Which I think they turned out great.

Also to honor the Vets my 1st graders made soldiers.  We worked in painting big non geomectic shapes with different greens and browns to make camo.  After that we used that big paper and cut it up to make all the parts to the soldiers.

So that is how we are doing honor this year to the Veterans.

3rd grade landforms

So my 3rd grade were studying landforms in there regular Ed class.  So I thought this would be a great tie in with art.  So I was teaching them about non geometric shapes and topographic maps. They turned out great.

ARART app

Hey everyone I know you all have been missing me right?   Well things are going great we were working on are Square 1 art projects which most of them I have posted in the passed.  My fifth graders did a wonderful self portrait which I would post but it has a picture of them so I won't do that.

But any way I found this app the called ARART.  It is pretty cool you can make a few paintings come to life and move. I tell my students that I have the power to make panting come to life. They think it is great.

So if you have a iPhone or a iPad. Give it a try.

More fun to come
So please stay tuned in.

Grrr pencils.

Ok I know that Ticonderoga have the worlds best pencils. (or are they).  I am not sure if I keep getting the bad  boxes or what.   I have sharpen in both electric and hand crank sharpener.  Must of the time when we sharpen the pencil lead has a tiny crack in it and it breaks off.  This will happen a few times.  This is the 3rd week of school and my pencil are almost nothing.   Grrr.  That's all.

Summer has been a bit crazy so for.

Well I know I have not posted in a long time.  Been busy the first 3 weeks of summer.  Well I been trying to paint the wall in my house to give it a new look.  Cleaning up a flood that my asymmetrical son created. By clogging up the sink and let the water on. Dealing with phone company. Also been working on my paper cuts I have a few orders.  And teaching 2 weeks of fun summer school.  I been teaching video game design using a web base program call Scratch.  The kids love it and it is easy to do some stuff.  It makes them great problem solvers.  We had a lot of fun doing it.  I am just amazed of what they can do and how they can get it to run.  I am going to try and post more. I hope everyone is havering a great summer.

Wow wow wow. I am hitting the runway again

Some of you might now that I am a great story teller, but must you don't. So one of the story I told my 5th graders is that I was a former male model. Hahaha. So then I saw a post that Philly made over at there is a dragon in my art room. About some students made clothing about a artist and a painting. So I thought that would be fun for the last few weeks of school. You should see my 5th graders working it is really amazing. All I told them is that they need to make some kind of clothing and it had to go along with there painting that they picked. They are going to work on it for about 2 weeks and we are going to have a fashion show. Yeah.

Photo booth.

Well I saw a picture on Pinterest of bug in a photo booth and I thought what fun. So my wonderful 4th grader did just that. We set up are paper and they showed what bugs would do if they had a photo booth. We also used black india ink to make it look like a black and white photo. So they had to work on getting on different grays. What fun.

Table full of caps

Well last week one of my second grader were very far ahead of the other second grade class I have. So I gave each table a bunch of caps and they could work in a group or by themselves. They could make any thing they wanted. So we had robots, campfire with roasted marshmallow, castle, and penguins with balloons. They have so much fun.

We made this project 3d which they loved. Next we add I. Some bushes and trees to give it more of a 3d feel. Loved it.

Clay owls ver. 2.0

Ok I do t really post stuff unless we are all the way done with a project. But I wanted you all to have a tasted of what we are doing. Well last year the other art teacher I work with changed are clay owl project to a slab rectangle one. But I still did the old one which you can find on the my blog. So this year I tried the slab one out but with a circle. I know what you are thinking what a rebel I am. Anywho this is what they look like so for. I will post when we are all way done with them.

Getting all dressed up.

First of all I know what you are thing this is a follow up to my stains. Nope you all are wrong it's not I fooled you again. Hahaha. Ok for real now. So one of my favorite authors is Mo Willems. So we were reading the book "Naked Mole Rat Gets Dress". So I showed my first grader how to draw a naked mole rat. Then I let my fristy pick what they wanted to dress them up in.
After I did this I had a thought it would be cool to have them dress up there mole rat in what they want to be when they grow up. That could be neat to see.

Koi fish

So a bit ago we make clay fish with are 3rd grader so I was looking for a fish project to do with them. Somehow I came across a koi fish project from smArt Class blog. She showed you step by step on how to make a really great fish drawing.
So I gave my students 12"x24" paper and told them to draw as big as they could. We did the drawing step by step. Then we did the marker and paint water over it. They turned out great. Thanks again smArt class for the great project. My students loved it.

A bad week for my.....

Ok well this was a bad week for my clothes. First i got red and a bit of blue tempera paint on my grey shirt. Which I used carpet cleaner to get it out. Which work very well. Then as I was getting the black India ink ready it leak out of the cap. Then drips of it came down on my pants. I couldnt find anything to get the ink out. Oh well what is an art teacher to do. Right. Well do you all have any tips for getting black India ink out. I know everyone would love to hear them.

You know we should have a list of cleaners that will take out stains for all the stuff we do. We (me) are messy just like my messy blog.

Over and out
R.

Best gift ever so for.

So on Friday my kinders came to art. And on of my students brought me the best gift ever. She brought this big box in to me. It was a room/house. She glued on old wallpaper on it. And inside there is a desk, fireplace, cross on the wall, and a refrigerator with doors that open. It was really sweet of her.

Packing portraits

Ok let me start out this was one of the easy projects this year for me to teacher. But one of the most challenging projects for them. I told my 5th graders that they were going to make a selfportrait. They had to use all there prior knowledge to make it. Which they have because I do selfportrait with the other grades.
There were rules to this project. I gave them one piece of black paper to work on.
1. They could only use the packing materials that were in my box.
2. The only tools they could use are there hands. (no scissors) And they could use glue.
I will tell you what a lot of my students thought this was one of the must fun projects they did this year. It made them think about what they were doing and they also had to be great problem solvers.
I think they turned out wonderful.
Please let me know what you think.
